Around 600 Candidates Submit Papers for 2026 Russian Parliamentary Elections: Election Commission
Almost 600 candidates have submitted documents for the Russian parliament elections in single-member constituencies, with 82 of them self-nominated, Russia's Central Election Commission (CEC) chief Ella Pamfilova said on Wednesday.
"To date, 589 people have submitted nomination documents to district election commissions in 225 single-member constituencies: 507 from seven parties and 82 self-nominees," Pamfilova told a briefing.
The CEC certified a total of 2,066 candidates on federal party lists and 1,357 in single-member constituencies, with the deadline for registering candidates set to August 5, she added.
As for
the elections of regional governors, 40 candidates from nine parties were nominated, Pamfilova also said, adding that the highest numbers of candidates were recorded in the Republic of Mordovia, the Belgorod and Tver regions, with six candidates in each.
"In total, 8,796 sets of documents have been submitted over this period. In quantitative terms, it is 135,922 pages. I roughly calculated, divided by 12 days, which is over 11,300 pages per day. And these are not just pages, but a set of information that needs to be scrutinized," the CEC head said.
