Japan Anti-Government Protest Draws 25,000 Despite Record Heat
An anti-government protest against the militarization of Japan took place in central Tokyo on Sunday, despite extreme heat, with the organisers announcing 25,000 participants, a Sputnik correspondent reported.
The protesters gathered in front of the parliament building, holding posters that demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and her defense minister, Shinjiro Koizumi. The people were unhappy with the policy of ramping up arms exports and military spending.
The protesters called for Takaichi and Koizumi to resign immediately and distance themselves from politics. One of them told Sputnik that he believes the Japanese did not need to wait for another four years to elect a new prime minister.
"We must be brave. That is what I came here for. To demonstrate that there are people who disagree with the government policies," the protester said.
