India's data center capacity has more than quadrupled since 2020 amid rapid growth in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing, Electronics and IT Minister of State Jitin Prasada said on Thursday.
"The Data Center industry in India has been growing at a steady pace. The rapid growth of AI and high-performance computing is driving increasing demand for data center capacity in the country … The installed capacity has grown from 375 MW in 2020 to current capacity of about 1,575 MW," Prasada said in a statement to parliament.
He added that the government aims to create a fully independent AI technology stack, including domestic computing capacity, foundation AI models, and Indian-developed applications, with a focus on making these technologies accessible to the widest possible range of users and companies.
