Japan Betraying History by Downplaying US Role in Atomic Bombings: Russian Foreign Ministry
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized Japan on Sunday for trying to downplay the United States' role in the August 1945 atomic bombings as a betrayal of history.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui avoided mentioning the US during a ceremony on Thursday that marked the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, which killed tens of thousands of people on August 6, 1945.
"This once again reminds us of the eternal truth that traitors, including those who betray history, memory and their people, are respected by no one. Especially by those who use them. The only thing they ultimately receive is shame and the contempt of their own people," Zakharova wrote on Telegram.
