Four Russian athletes will take part in the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Croatia thanks to efforts by the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian Embassy, and the Croatian side, the Russian diplomatic mission in Zagreb told Sputnik.
Earlier in August, media reported that Olympic champion Angelina Melnikova and six other members of the Russian national artistic gymnastics team had been refused visas.

"Extensive work was carried out in Moscow, primarily by the Russian Foreign Ministry, and by our embassy. As a result, four Russian athletes will take part in the championship. Special gratitude is due to those who stood up for the Russian national gymnastics team, above all the leadership of the Croatian Gymnastics Union, which actively engaged in resolving the issue," the Russian Embassy said.

These athletes are Angelina Melnikova, Anna Kalmykova, Leila Vasileva, and Alexey Usachev, the mission said, adding that they have received visas and are traveling to Croatia.
