Chinese space company LandSpace successfully returned the first stage of its launch vehicle to Earth on Wednesday, the developer said.
The Zhuque-3 reusable launch vehicle was launched from the Dongfeng Commercial Space Innovation Pilot Zone in northwest China at 7:35 a.m. on Wednesday (23:35 GMT Tuesday). Approximately 137 seconds after liftoff, the first and second stages of the rocket separated. The second stage continued its flight and successfully placed a satellite into its designated orbit.
The first stage of the rocket successfully made a soft landing on the Zhuque-3 landing site in Minqin County, Gansu Province, in accordance with the specified program. The mission was a success, the company said.
It noted that this was China's first successful ground return of the first stage of an orbital launch vehicle.
Zhuque-3 is a next-generation reusable launch vehicle powered by liquid oxygen and methane, independently developed by LandSpace.
