The death toll from the June earthquakes in Venezuela has reached 6,509, according to a new report released by Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez.
As many as 226,696 people received hospital care, and 6,462 people were rescued, Rodriguez said on Telegram late on Monday.
According to updated data, authorities inspected 60,785 residential buildings, with 35,545 deemed fit for habitation, 14,239 classified as limited-use, and 11,001 classified as high-risk.
During the restoration work, over 600,000 tonnes of construction waste were removed from affected areas, which is 28.61% of the total volume of debris.
Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez said on Monday that authorities had provided 335 new homes to the affected and rebuilt1,001 dwellings, with more than 4,000 homes and apartments planned to be provided to the affected families by the end of the year.
On June 24, two earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, struck Venezuela. The state of La Guaira and the capital city Caracas suffered the most. Venezuela declared a state of emergency and launched a large-scale recovery program.
