Nyoma is home to one of the world’s highest airbases capable of supporting fighter aircraft operations.The MCPS was designed and developed by DRDO’s Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE) in Agra and the Defence Bioengineering and Electromedical Laboratory in Bengaluru.ADRDE test jumpers exited the aircraft at an altitude of 22,000 feet above sea level during the trial, said DRDO. The parachutes were deployed at 20,000 feet, and the jumpers landed safely at an altitude of 13,700 feet. The test was carried out in temperatures as low as minus 15°C.

India Successfully Tests High-Altitude Combat Parachute System
India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully tested its Military Combat Parachute System (MCPS) at one of the world’s highest drop zones in Ladakh.
The test was conducted at Nyoma in south-eastern Ladakh, near the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Nyoma is home to one of the world’s highest airbases capable of supporting fighter aircraft operations.
