19:50 28.08.2026 (Updated: 19:24 30.08.2026) Russian state corporation Rostec has unveiled the SOKOL-08 radar station, a new system developed to detect small unmanned aerial vehicles and drone swarms, the corporation said.
The radar was developed by Rostec’s Rosel holding and incorporates machine-learning algorithms to identify small UAVs while filtering out false targets.
The SOKOL-08 is designed for rapid deployment and does not require a specially prepared site. A satellite-navigation module and inclinometer allow the system to automatically determine its position and compensate for terrain tilt during setup.
Multi-target tracking: The radar can simultaneously track up to 100 objects while filtering potential false targets.
Interceptor support: It can track both a designated drone and an interceptor launched to engage it.
Phased-array radar: The system uses a two-dimensional phased-array antenna operating in the X-band.
Small-target detection: Rostec says the radar can detect low-flying and low-observable targets as small as birds and compact commercial drones.
Flexible scanning: The system supports circular and 90-degree sector scanning modes.
Rapid deployment: Built-in navigation and positioning systems are designed to speed up deployment in the field.
