No Foreign Tourists Stranded in Tibet Disaster Zone: Chinese Authorities
Chinese authorities said on Sunday that after inspections, no foreign tourists remain stranded in the debris flow zone in Gyirong County of the Tibet Autonomous Region.
On Wednesday, a large mudslide occurred on the Nepalese side, resulting in a disaster near the Gyirong checkpoint on the China-Nepal border in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
"After several rounds of continuous territory checks, individual point checks and personal checks at border points, there are currently no foreign tourists stranded [forced to remain] in Gyirong County," local authorities were quoted as saying by China Central Television.
Local authorities also reported at a press conference that as a result of the severe mudslide in the Tibet Autonomous Region, contact had been lost with 261 foreign citizens from 23 countries, including three Russians.
