China is ready to cooperate with the Middle East to ensure the safety of international shipping routes and eliminate hotbeds of conflict, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday.
"China is ready to cooperate with all countries in the region to ensure the safety of international maritime routes and promote development cooperation," Xi Jinping said at talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi, as quoted by China Central Television.
Beijing's is ready to "promote the integration of the interests of the countries of the region, gradually strengthen mutual trust and eliminate hotbeds of conflict," Xi added.
He also stated that China will continue to encourage its companies to boost investment to Egypt, including in industry, energy and infrastructure.
The Chinese president is on an official visit to Cairo. On Wednesday, he was received at the Al Ittihadiya presidential palace by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi.
"China intends to continue encouraging Chinese companies to increase investment to Egypt and use advantages and opportunities, provided by the Egyptian market and its strategic location," Xi was quoted as saying by the Egyptian presidential office.
The parties also agreed to launch the third phase of the expansion of the China-Egypt industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. According to Sisi, the new phase involves projects in key sectors, including renewable energy, automotive manufacturing, textiles and chemical fiber production.
China also intends to continue sharing experience and technical cooperation with Egypt in the areas of infrastructure, energy, industrial production and agriculture, the Egyptian administration said.
