The new bridge on the Russia-North Korea border is a significant interstate infrastructure project, and work on the Far East's infrastructure development will continue, Russian Far East and Arctic Development Minister Alexey Chekunkov said on Monday.
The two-lane bridge, inaugurated by PM Mikhail Mishustin and DPRK Cabinet Premier Pak Thae-song via video link, spans the Tumannaya River in Russia’s Primorsky Krai.

"This is the third significant interstate infrastructure project, the third bridge. The first is [Russia's] Nizhneleninskoe-[China's] Tongjiang, the second is [Russia's] Blagoveshchensk-[China's] Heihe. Today, with the completion of the bridge across the Tumen River, we see that the Far East continues to develop dynamically as a logistics hub, infrastructure hub, a hub for attracting investment and new technologies," Chekunkov told reporters after the bridge opening ceremony.

Work on the Far East's infrastructure development will continue, the minister added.
The opening of the automobile bridge across the Tumen River is a significant event and will give new impetus to Russia-North Korea relations, Pak said.
The crossing is projected to significantly boost bilateral freight and passenger traffic, enhance regional industrial cooperation, and stimulate tourism across Russia's Far East, supported by a modern checkpoint capable of handling up to 300 vehicles daily.
In a nod to shared historical ties, the bridge has been named after Yakov Novichenko, the Soviet army officer celebrated for saving North Korea’s founding father, Kim Il Sung, from an assassination attempt in 1946.
The construction of the bridge across the Tumen River was completed at a time when Russia and North Korea are actively working on planning and implementing mutually beneficial long-term cooperation projects in all areas, including politics, economy and culture, based on the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership, the chairman noted.
