Russia Nears Vaccine Breakthrough Against Ebola, Marburg

Russia is nearing completion of clinical trials for new vaccines targeting Ebola and Marburg, Anna Popova, head of the country’s consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, told Sputnik.
The trials are expected to conclude soon, followed by the preparation of documentation required for regulatory registration and production, she stated.
"We hope to complete the clinical trials soon and finalise the entire necessary documentation package, including the paperwork required for production," Popova stressed.
Rospotrebnadzor is prepared to begin the registration process once the required clinical and regulatory documentation is completed, she added.
Ebola and Marburg are viral hemorrhagic fevers that can cause severe disease and death. The World Health Organization notes that Ebola virus disease has historically recorded case-fatality rates of up to 90%, while Marburg outbreaks have reached fatality rates of up to 88%.
While vaccines are available against certain Ebola viruses, Marburg currently has no widely licensed vaccine, making the development of new candidates a significant public-health focus.
