In total, 20,700 parliamentary seats and elected offices are expected to be filled. President Vladimir Putin has called the parliamentary elections the most important domestic political event.

Observing the democratic elections to the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, is a privilege, Man Bahadur Karki, head of Nepal's election commission, said on Saturday.
"I would like to say that it's a privilege to take part in observing these democratic elections," Karki said at a conference entitled "Elections in the Era of Turbulence," hosted by the Russian Central Election Commission in Moscow.
