Ukraine is trying to convince its Western allies that its military can put up resistance in the zone of responsibility of Russia's Zapad (West) battlegroup, the Russian Defence Ministry said on Saturday.
"Against the backdrop of the rapid advance by Russian troops in all directions, the government in Kiev is once again trying to convince its Western handlers of the Ukrainian armed forces' ability to resist our army in the zone of responsibility of the Zapad battlegroup," the statement read.
The ministry added that the Russian armed forces continue to carry out the tasks of the special military operation, increasing the pace of the offensive in all directions.
The Russian military said that the Zapad battlegroup improved its position along the front line in the past day, hitting forces of three Ukrainian mechanized brigades and a territorial defense brigade in the Kharkov region and in the Donetsk People's Republic.
