19:55 23.09.2026 (Updated: 19:58 23.09.2026) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio have concluded an hour-long meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The talks focused on bilateral issues, including Washington's position on Ukraine and ongoing mediation efforts.
The meeting took place amid heightened tensions over a proposed new US sanctions bill targeting Russia, adding significance to the latest high-level contact between Russia and US.
Lavrov arrived in the US on Tuesday to participate in the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. His meeting with Rubio was the first event on the Russian foreign minister's working agenda on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
