Speaking at an event organized by the Asia Society in New York, Jaishankar identified trade-related difficulties and what he described as a troubling lack of sensitivity toward India’s concerns over state-sponsored terrorism as key factors complicating stronger ties between India and the United States.Jaishankar stressed that security remains “particularly important” for India and warned that relations can suffer when a partner fails to adequately recognize issues that New Delhi considers vital to its national interests.“If there is something which matters a lot to us, and there is not enough understanding, appreciation or sensitivity towards it, I think that creates a problem,” Jaishankar said.He added that disagreements become especially serious when they concern a country’s fundamental priorities.“If one of my primary concerns is not fully understood by my partner, clearly that has an impact on the relationship,” the foreign minister said.

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has said that Washington’s insufficient understanding of New Delhi’s core security concerns remains a major obstacle in bilateral relations.
Speaking at an event organized by the Asia Society in New York, Jaishankar identified trade-related difficulties and what he described as a troubling lack of sensitivity toward India’s concerns over state-sponsored terrorism as key factors complicating stronger ties between India and the United States.
