India’s Defence Minister highlights AI, drones, indigenous defence production and fifth-generation fighter technology at the closing ceremony of multinational air exercise Tarang Shakti.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the second edition of the multinational air exercise Tarang Shakti in Jodhpur, Singh said modern warfare was becoming increasingly complex, extending beyond the traditional domains of land, sea and air to encompass space, cyberspace, the electromagnetic spectrum and the information domain.
“Future military power will be determined less by the number of platforms we possess and more by the speed at which we identify threats, understand them, make decisions and take action,” Singh said.
He noted that drones and unmanned systems had transformed the pace, scale and nature of military operations, while artificial intelligence was increasingly supporting decision-making. Electronic warfare, long-range precision weapons and the militarisation of critical maritime routes were also creating new security challenges, he added.

Citing platforms such as the Tejas fighter, Akash air defence system and Prachand helicopter, he said the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme would help India develop fifth-generation stealth fighter capabilities.
India is prepared to explore new opportunities with trusted partner countries in research, joint development, co-production, maintenance and training, Singh asserted.
