A clever Russian syndicated columnist has found the right words to explain to me, why I do not like climate activists and, indeed, eco-activists of all kinds.
Mr. Vitaly Trofimov puts it plainly: global green movement has completely erased the line, after which protection of environment turns into using environment blabber against your political adversary. Which simply means that the Greens today are not protecting nature, they only sell the dregs of their reputation to the highest bidder.
The examples used by Trofimov are well known to every Russian, and these examples are all related to the protracted European war against Russia, with Ukraine as miserable cannon fodder. Practically every international green organization is on the side of Ukraine, cutting (luckily for us) all ties with Russia.
But how so, if Ukrainian armed forces have destroyed the Kakhovskaya hydropower station in 2023, exploding its dam and turning vast lands into a zone of ecological disaster, one huge swamp to stop the Russian troops from taking these territories? How so, if – to repeat my previous columns – Ukrainians keep on attacking the Zaporozhye nuclear power station, risking a total environmental disaster in Europe? And, finally, how so, when Ukraine has depleted marine resources of a small Sea of Azov already in 2007-2008, when no war was around and Ukraine controlled most of that sea? Surely anyone with proper green ideas just has to hate Ukraine?
All in all, says Trofimov, your typical eco-activist is like a predatory animal that uses green grass to obscure its approach to real targets. But the result of that duplicity is total loss of logic of the Green movement, which means its virtual self-destruction.
Let us see where have I read something similar last May, and stored it in my files. The columnist’s name is Sagorika Sinha, and she says: Foreign money funnelled via NGO networks has often been found causing activists-for-hire to function as agents to disrupt Indian industry, economic growth and energy independence efforts.
Yes, the lady is writing not about just any kind of NGOs, but exactly about all these protectors of nature and defenders of the planet from climate change.
Here’s Ms. Sinha’s list: India-based activists also appropriating environmental concerns have been responsible thus far for shutting down the Sterlite copper plant in Tamil Nadu, which resulted in the country having to import copper from Pakistan before the plant recently moved to Gujarat; disruption at the Kudankulam nuclear power plant, also in Tamil Nadu; delaying the development of Vizhinjam Port, a significant development for India that intends to add shipping capacity and compete with Colombo and Singapore; and, a two-decade delay in the setting up of the POSCO steel plant in Odisha (a joint development with South Korea), as well as delay in metro construction in Mumbai.
These Green folks have been busy in India, haven’t they? And Ms. Sinha has to be commended for that wonderful formulae: appropriation of environmental concerns.
So let us, too, call a spade a spade. What the world is witnessing, is a start of moral self-destruction of a huge global scam, one of several scams aimed at changing drastically human behavior, virtually at creating a new human being, cowed and obedient. Yes, it’s about that idea of climate change that allegedly can be stopped and reversed by a “green transition” to different kind of energy technologies. With all respect to those honest souls who still believe in that transition, we just have to admit: the originally beautiful green idea of protecting Earth has been hopelessly soiled by bad folks, and is in need of a complete reset at best.
Some people knew it and even predicted that moral disaster almost a quarter of a century ago. It’s a matter of reading good books at the proper moment, far as I’m concerned.
The book in question is called State of Fear, that author is American, Michael Crichton of Jurassic Park fame. The year of publication is 2004. And I have to admit that it is not a perfect book, as thrillers go. First, there is a super-agent there, who is constantly lecturing colleagues (and us) about the fake science on “global warming”, quoting at length statistics, etc. He does it for hours, utilizing long-haul flights and anything you may imagine. Second, that detective thriller has been supplied with twenty pages of bibliography, proving again that “man-made global warming” is a scam. So is it a hones thriller, or a research volume? Third, eco-activist’s terrorist conspiracy in the book is a bit of too much, especially from a technological point of view.
But, still, this is a wonderful book, at the very least due to its title. State of fear is not just the US. It is a perfect description of the main tool of woke revolutionaries trying to change humanity. First they take some good idea, like “you have to take care of environment”, and inflate it to the extreme. And then we are supposed to live our life in a constant state of shame and fear of imminent threat, sacrificing anything to prevent it. Next step: you have to create your own well-paid science to prove and relentlessly propagate your point, and designate anyone inquisitive “sceptics” and “deniers”, with the big idea that these ones are outcasts, if not outright criminals. Finally, you establish supra-national bodies to impose your fake ideas on all the world, and that’s what we had until recently. After which a “climate lobby” starts selling its weird technologies, finally making money after initial investments in fear.
And, in the process, they – see above – “erase the line” between moral and immoral, and that’s how they lose.
But, wait. That is by far not the only global campaign using the same strategy, and approaching a failure now. Michael Crichton wrote another novel back then in 1990-s (titled Disclosure), and that is about the corruption of feminism. Strategy used by bad girls is the same: shame and fear (men should be ashamed of themselves and fear women), cherry-picked facts, quashing of opponents, creating supra-national bodies to impose rules of behavior.
And, wait again. There are several other global campaigns, waged according to the same rule-book, but not picked up by Crichton. That is anti-tobacco crusade, where “global warming” is replaced by “passive smoking” (no, do not get enraged, try to study the facts instead, especially to look at who provides them and who pays for them). While yet another “state of fear” was in the times of that global hysterics about a certain virus, with a crazy shutdown of almost the whole world. Here we have not the climate lobby, but the medical one.
And all of them have obviously passed the peak of activity now, with their credibility undermined and reputation tarnished. So, the new generations of potential activists are looking around for some cause worth of fighting for and oppressing all the humanity in the process. And we have to think of nationalization, or maybe regionalization, of eco-activism.
