The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) is discussing joint development and production of equipment used in the gas industry, as well as cross-border payments in national currencies, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev said on Friday.
"The GECF is a platform for practical cooperation. We are discussing joint development and production of equipment for the gas and LNG industry, mutual recognition of standards and payments in national currencies," he told journalists on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week.
The minister said that the global energy market is changing as certain countries try to weaponize energy trade for political leverage, imposing sanctions against suppliers and forcing their own energy transition rules upon other states.
The exploration and development of new gas fields requires decades-long investment commitments. Long-term gas contracts are especially important for Russia, alongside just pricing and the rejection of unilateral restrictions, Tsivilev said.
The Russian Energy Week is taking place in Moscow from October 14-16. RIA Novosti is a media partner of the forum.
