Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom has signed the world's first agreement to supply two floating nuclear power plants (NPPs) to Indonesia, a Sputnik correspondent reported on Friday.
The signing took place on Friday as part of Russian Energy Week held in Moscow.
Rosatom and Indonesian company PT Pembangkit Listrik Nuklir concluded an agreement on supplying electricity to consumers in the North Maluku region in eastern Indonesia using floating NPP units.
As part of the project, Rosatom will supply two PEB-100 floating NPP units with RITM reactor facilities with a total capacity of 200 MW to supply electricity to the north of Halmahera Island.
The floating NPPs are projected to begin generating the first megawatts of electricity for Indonesian consumers as early as 5 years after the main terms of the power supply contract come into force.
Meanwhile, Rosatom will send more diesel to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) to bolster fuel security, according to CEO Alexey Likhachev.
"We are currently preparing another diesel fuel convoy, quite large in size, which will further strengthen the fuel security at the power plant during [external power] outages," he said.
The ZNPP has the necessary reserve of diesel fuel, with measures being taken to replenish it, Likhachev told reporters.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said on Friday that measures should be taken to increase diesel fuel volumes at the ZNPP before winter sets in. Diesel fuel reserves at the ZNPP have been running low in recent months, Grossi said, arguing that no diesel deliveries have been made since March.
