EU sanctions policy is an ineffective relic of the era of former US President Joe Biden, said Kirill Dmitriev, Russia's presidential special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries.
"Most countries have not joined the sanctions against Russia and understand that they harm the global economy and prosperity. Sanctions are ineffective Biden-era thinking," Dmitriev wrote on social media platform X.
He was commenting on a post by blogger Mario Nawfal, who noted in his publication that most countries of the world, including China, India and Turkey, had not joined the new package of EU anti-Russia sanctions.
On Monday, the European Union added 1,569 Russian enterprises, organisations and their executives to its sanctions lists, including from the shipbuilding, aviation, rocket and space, chemical, electronics and textile industries, as well as scientific and educational institutions.
US President Donald Trump earlier, in a new executive order, declined to apply sanctions against Russian officials, banks and organisations provided for by the new law on sanctions against Russia. The law also includes a ban on new American investment in Russia and measures to ensure a ban on the import of Russian uranium.
The exceptions provided for by Trump do not affect previously imposed US sanctions against Russia.
