The number of people injured in an earthquake that hit China's Tibet Autonomous Region overnight has risen to 65, China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Friday.
Earlier in the day, Chinese media reported that 16 people had died and 46 others had been injured in a strong 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck the mountainous region on Thursday night.
CCTV reported that of those 65 injured people, 11 sustained serious injuries, while 54 suffered minor injuries. Nearly 12,500 people were evacuated to safe locations.
According to the China Seismological Centre, the earthquake struck the Baqen county in the Nagchu Prefecture. Its epicenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
Chinese President Xi Jinping urged rescuers to spare no effort in saving people who may be trapped under the debris and assisting the wounded.
