India has strongly condemned the attack on a church in Karak, Jordan, on October 23, 2026, which claimed several innocent lives and left many others injured, the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
In a statement, India extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. It also expressed solidarity with the Government and people of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, reaffirming its commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
The death toll from the terrorist attack has risen to eight after one of the critically wounded victims passed away in the hospital, Jordanian Health Minister Ibrahim Al-Badour said on Saturday.
Of the 27 people wounded who remain hospitalised, one person is still in critical condition, he added.
"One of the two critically wounded individuals, who was receiving treatment at the Prince Ali Military Hospital, has died, bringing the death toll from the terrorist attack to eight," the minister told state-owned Al-Mamlaka television channel.
On Friday, two armed men stepped out of a vehicle and opened fire during a funeral service at a church in Hamoud, in the province of Al-Karak in southern Jordan. The kingdom's Interior Ministry described the incident as a terrorist attack carried out by extremists.
