Ex-US President Barack Obama's administration betrayed Ukrainians by promising them material benefits from "Western democracy" in exchange for abandoning their national interests and forgetting their history, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.
Obama earlier criticized Washington's current Ukraine policy at a rally in Atlanta, claiming the White House was betraying Ukrainians.
"Obama said the United States is betraying Ukrainians. At last, Obama has acknowledged what we have been saying for a long time. His administration, aides and fellow party members betrayed Ukrainians by promising them material benefits and perks from the vaunted 'Western democracy' in exchange for giving up their national interests and forgetting their own history," Zakharova wrote on Telegram.
She added that Obama should remember how State Department officials orchestrated an unconstitutional coup on Kiev's Maidan, and how, under his instructions, then-Vice President Joe Biden pressured the EU to impose anti-Russian sanctions in 2014.
