Russia is developing international transport corridors that provide the shortest connections between Central, South, and Southeast Asia, the Persian Gulf states, and Europe, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry Kirill Logvinov said.
“Our country attaches priority importance to the development of international transport corridors. Transit routes passing through the territory of the Russian Federation provide the shortest and uninterrupted connection between Central, South, and Southeast Asia, the Persian Gulf states, and Europe,” Logvinov said at the Economic Forum of the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA).
He said there are plans to increase the throughput capacity of the Trans-Siberian and Baikal-Amur railways to 210 million tonnes by the end of 2030, and to 270 million tonnes by the end of 2032.
Russia is also improving tariff and technological conditions along the routes of the North-South International Transport Corridor (ITC) and is promoting initiatives to link Eurasian transport routes, simplify cross-border procedures, and develop a network of “dry ports.” Logvinov noted the potential of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) for the implementation of SPECA’s strategic documents and projects. The diplomat added that the development of integration ties across the Greater Eurasia region is a prerequisite for sustainable economic development.
