Eight men were arrested on suspicion of raping a 16-year-old girl in the Palghar district of Maharashtra state, a police spokesperson said on Sunday.
As per the complaint filed by the minor girl, the incident took place during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday when one of the men, who was known to her, lured her to an unoccupied bungalow in the seaside Mahim village of the district, where eight men took turns to sexually assault her.
Later the men took her to the beach where they once again raped her in a secluded area.
"In her complaint lodged on Saturday, the victim said that her ordeal began at 8 pm on December 16 and continued till 10 am the next day, during which the accused took her to an unoccupied bungalow in Mahim village where they took turns to rape her. Later, they also took her to the seashore where they again sexually assaulted her in the bushes," the police officer said.
The police have charged the accused under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The men have also been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including gang rape, procuration of a minor girl, and wrongful confinement.
