Football megastar Cristiano Ronaldo is getting savaged on Twitter after he made an embarrassing gaffe at his unveiling ceremony for Saudi club Al-Nassr on Tuesday night.
During his press conference, CR7 made a comical mistake, declaring he had moved to South Africa instead of Saudi Arabia.
"It's not the end of my career to come to South Africa," he told media, during his first media briefing as an Al-Nassr player.
Al-Nassr is a Saudi Arabian club based in Riyadh. After Ronaldo's embarrassing gaffe, football fans from all over the world started mercilessly mocking him on Twitter.
"Poor man doesn't even know where he is playing. Pray for Ronaldo!" a fan wrote.
"He's completely washed, dusted and finished. Most overrated player of all time," another claimed.
"I'm sure he doesn't even know the name of his team," a third declared.
"Saudi Arabia, Al-Nassr really paid Cristiano Ronaldo $200m to say he's excited to play in South Africa," a fourth said sarcastically.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner's $201 million per year move to the Middle East came after Manchester United terminated his contract in November.
The Premier League side's decision to part ways with Ronaldo came following his bombshell interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan, in which he slammed the club's top management, including manager Erik ten Hag.
However, critics of the Funchal-born player have argued that he arrived in the kingdom just for the sake of money as he couldn't have earned such big bucks in Europe or elsewhere, especially when his performance was on the decline on the pitch.
But Ronaldo has vehemently denied such claims, even announcing that he had multiple offers from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including a few from his country Portugal.
Despite his dismissal though, the role of money cannot be denied in his arrival in Riyadh. After all, his latest deal with Al-Nassr has made the 37-year-old the highest-paid football player on the planet with a considerable margin over French and PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.
