Three Indian army men -- two soldiers and an officer, died on Wednesday after they slipped into a gorge in Kupwara District in India's Jammu and Kashmir union territory, an army official said.
The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps announced that the incident occurred in the Machil area, where the soldiers were traversing a snow-covered track.
"During a regular operational task in a forward area, a party of one Junior Commissioned Officer and two OR slipped into a deep gorge when snow on the track gave way,” the Chinar Corps said.
The mortal remains of all the three brave soldiers have been retrieved, the army official added.
The Kashmir valley has seen massive snowfall this winter, with Leh-Srinagar highway receiving over 1ft of snow on Tuesday alone.
