Over 600 vehicles were left stranded after frequent landslides for the second consecutive day forced the authorities in the union territory's Ramban district to shut down the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Tuesday.
The 270 km highway is the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country.
Videos of the incident are making rounds on the Internet, in which a huge portion of a mountain can be seen breaking apart and falling down.
On Monday, traffic officials had to block the route due to heavy mudslides and shooting stones between the Ramban district's Chanderkote village and Banihal town.
While people have been trying to clear the debris and snow from the roads, traffic officials have issued an advisory urging people not to travel on that highway.
