Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has been booked by the Mumbai police for allegedly assaulting his wife of 16 years, Andrea Hewitt, media suggest.
In the first information report (FIR) filed by Hewitt, she accused Kambli of assaulting her.
Kambli allegedly threw the handle of a cooking pan at her, because of which she suffered a head injury and was admitted to hospital.
"Despite trying to pacify him, he abused me and my son for no reason. He charged at us. After hitting the cooking panhandle, he charged again with a bat. I managed to stop him before leaving with my son, and rushed to the hospital," Hewitt said in the FIR.
While the cricketer has not been arrested so far, the police reached his apartment to probe the matter.

This is not the first time Kambli has been accused of abuse and assault after abrasive drinking.
Last year, Bandra police had arrested the cricketer for hitting a car while under the influence of alcohol. In 2015, Kambli and his wife were booked for beating up their maid.
