A Maharashtra state lawmaker of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray-led faction) party, Prakash Phaterpekar, had to apologize to popular Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam on Tuesday after his son allegedly manhandled the musician for a selfie.
The scuffle with Nigam that broke out on Monday night left several people injured, including the singer's mentor, Ghulam Mustafa Khan’s son, his close aid, Rabbani Khan, and his bodyguards, who were walking down the stairs with the singer after the concert.
The apology came hours after Sonu Nigam filed a police complaint against the legislator's son Swapnil Phaterpekar, and others over the incident.
The video of the incident, which has gone viral, shows Nigam dressed in a white shirt and jeans, pushed around by a group of people who rushed toward him to take selfies with the star singer.
Nigam told Indian media, "I filed a complaint so that people should think twice before forcefully taking selfies and causing a scuffle.”
Swapnil's sister, Suprada Phaterpekar, also came to his rescue and tweeted that they were deeply apologetic about the incident and clarified that it was not an attack but a minor scuffle.
Accused Swapnil Phaterpekar's sister and father apologize to Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam for being manhandled for selfie after his concert in Mumbai.
One of India's celebrated singers, Nigam, 49, found a place in everyone's heart with his melodious compositions including ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’, 'Saathiya', 'Mein Hoon Naa', 'Sandese Aate Hai', 'Yeh Dil Deewana',' Sooraj Hua Madham', and 'Tumse Milke Dil Ka'.
