Karnataka state chief Basavaraj Bommai termed the Congress Party a den of corruption on Monday after its state unit chief D.K. Shivakumar called a general strike against the “corrupt” BJP state government.
While talking to the reporters, the state chief said: “The scams done by the Congress Party are not one or two. The time has come for that party to become extinct. Those leaders have called for bandh [general strike], thinking they can write their political future through protests and bandh, but no one will support it.”
“People who make allegations must be clean only then will it have some value. But the Congress leaders have indulged in corruption, starting from small items like pillows, mattresses, coffee, biscuits to irrigation,” he added.
He further stated that during the Congress rule, then-state chief Siddaramaiah had set the target for all other ministers.
"The Congress Party is filled with corruption and their games will not be entertained. The people will decide in the election arena," Bommai said.
Congress' Call for Statewide Shutdown
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D. K. Shivakumar has called for a two-hour statewide shutdown on March 9 against the corrupt practices of state government led by the BJP.
Shivakumar’s call for shutdown came after senior Congress politician and former state chief Siddaramaiah staged a protest in Bengaluru, capital city of the state, against the sitting BJP lawmaker Madal Virupakshappa.
Virupakshappa’s son Prashanth Madal was caught taking a bribe and was arrested by the state’s ombudsman last week. A total of at least INR 80 million ($976,639) was found in the lawmaker’s house.
