Pakistan: Suicide Bomb in Balochistan Kills Nine Policemen

Pakistan has witnessed a wave of militant attacks after the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)* ended its ceasefire with the federal government in November.

A suicide bomb in Pakistan's Balochistan province killed nine police personnel on Monday, leaving 13 others injured, police said.
Kachhi Police Chief Mahmood Notezai confirmed the deaths to local media.

"The constabulary van was on its way back to Quetta [city] from Sibi [city] when an explosion occurred near the vehicle on the Kambri Bridge in the area, bordering the Sibi and Kachhi borders," he said.

A search and combing operation is underway at the site, he added.
Condemning the attack, Balochistan state chief Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo vowed that the "conspiracies" to create "unrest and instability" in the province would be dealt with in full force.
"All such conspiracies will be made unsuccessful with the public’s support. The sacrifices of the martyred will not go to waste," Bizenjo said in a statement.
The incident has come at a time when Pakistan is facing regular militant attacks, especially against its security forces in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
In February, a deadly suicide attack on a mosque in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killed more than 100 people, including scores of policemen.
Last week, two Pakistani soldiers lost their lives in a gun battle with militants in the North Waziristan tribal district.
Pakistani agencies have blamed the TTP for the rising number of attacks, alleging that the proscribed organization was using Afghan territory to plan and execute them.
The escalation in such attacks led Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif to visit Kabul last month, urging the Taliban** leadership to take action against TTP's members and their hideouts.
