Dreaded gangster Anil Dujana, with over 62 criminal cases against him, was killed in a gun battle with the Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Task Force (STF) in Meerut city on Thursday.
Out of the cases against the wanted gangster, 18 were murders, and the rest were linked to robbery, extortion and land grabbing. Dujana was also booked under the Arms Act and National Security Act (NSA).
The first homicide case against him was filed in 2002, going on to face numerous murder and extortion charges later in his criminal career.
"Anil Dujana, a wanted criminal, was surrounded by our team in a village in Meerut on Thursday afternoon. Dujana fired at our team to escape and was killed in retaliatory firing." Additional Director General of Uttar Pradesh STF Amitabh Yash told reporters.
According to the police, 21 rounds of bullets were fired from both sides, with Dujana firing 15 rounds.
Local media reports say that the criminal was out on bail as of last month. However, soon after he was released, he started threatening witnesses in the murder case filed against him.
