A man has been arrested for allegedly urinating on another man in Sidhi district of India's Madhya Pradesh state on Tuesday night.
The arrested man has been identified as Pravesh Shukla while the victim has been identified as Dasmat Ravat.
After the uproar over the video, Madhya Pradesh state chief Shivraj Singh Chouhan ordered that a case be opened against Shukla under the National Security Act (NSA), SC/ST Act and Sections 294 (Obscene acts) and 504 (Intentional insult to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
He told reporters that the state government would ensure the “sternest possible punishment” for the accused to make an example of him. “We will not spare him at any cost.”
Police told media that Shukla changed his locations to evade being arrested. But following their surveillance, he was held at 2 a.m. (IST) on Wednesday. He has been placed under interrogation.
However, a number of media reports have claimed that the victim dismissed the viral video as fake when police questioned him.
Congress, the opposition party in Madhya Pradesh state, has alleged that Shukla is the representative of the state's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker Kedar Shukla. However, Kedar and the BJP have denied the allegations.
However, Shukla's s father Ramakant has said that his son is a representative of a BJP lawmaker which is why the opposition is targeting him.
He hoped that a thorough investigation into the case would serve justice.
