India's federally ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will hold its first political meeting in New Delhi on 18 July to discuss its strategy for 2024, Indian media reported.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to attend the meeting. However, there has been no official confirmation from the party.
The other parties in the NDA are Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Telugu Desam Party (TDP), and Lok Janshakti Party (Chirag Paswan faction).
Both the SAD and the TDP are no longer part of the NDA alliance. However, numerous reports have suggested that both regional parties are in talks with the BJP to fight the parliamentary elections together.
TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu recently met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, leaders from Maharashtra of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction (supporting Ajit Pawar) and the Shiv Sena party will also attend the dinner.
Earlier this week, union minister Anurag Thakur said several parties were keen to join the NDA after the NCP joined them. Senior BJP politicians are in talks with several state leaders ahead of the parliamentary elections.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have announced that they will meet in Bengaluru (Karnataka state) on 17 and 18 July to forge a front against the BJP in next year’s parliamentary elections.
