Three men have been arrested in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district by police for allegedly kidnapping and brutally beating tribal brothers following a road accident.
The men taken into custody were identified as Sumit Chowdhary, Jaipal Singh Baghel and Prem Singh Parmar. The arrest by police came after a video of the incident went viral.
When talking to the media about the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police Aditya Mishra said that an 18-year-old tribal man and his 15-year-old brother fell on a road after their motorcycle skidded while passing through the Treasure Fantasy area.
“After skidding, both tribal men engaged into an altercation with the guards over there. Following the altercation, the guards kidnapped them, took them to the guards room and thrashed them,” he added.
The official said that the incident happened on Friday and the victims (tribal brothers) were released by the guards on Saturday morning.
The victims were later admitted to a hospital, where their condition was said to be stable.
The accused have been charged under the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
The official further stated that if more persons are found to be involved in the case, then appropriate action will be taken against them too.
This is the second atrocity incident against a tribal in Madhya Pradesh. Earlier this week, a video showing an intoxicated male perpetrator urinating on another man went viral.
After that, State Chief Shivraj Singh Chouhan ordered action and asked the police to charge the accused under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).
After Chouhan's intervention, the police took swift action and the man was arrested. The authorities even demolished a part of his house which was illegally constructed.
The State Chief had also met the victim identified as Dasmat Ravat, apologised to him and washed his feet.
