Madhya Pradesh Police on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly urinating on a member of a Scheduled Tribe. The arrested man was charged under the National Security Act.
India's Madhya Pradesh State Chief Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday apologized to Dasmat Ravat, a member of a Scheduled Tribe who was urinated on by another man recently.
Chouhan also washed the man's feet, as an expression regret over the incident in his state, while describing him as a "friend".
The state chief, who met Ravat and his family in Bhopal city, shared a video and a couple of photographs on Twitter, saying that it saddened him to learn about the incident.
In the video, Chouhan is seen washing the feet of Ravat and conversing with him.

“I am sharing this video so that everyone should know that till Shivraj Singh Chouhan is the State Chief of Madhya Pradesh, people of the state will be treated like God. Atrocities on anyone won’t be tolerated and people’s pride is my pride.”

Meanwhile, sharing his photo with Ravat, the State Chief wrote on Twitter in Hindi: “I am extremely sad. Dasmat, this is an attempt to share your grief. I apologize to you, as the people of my state are equivalent to God for me.”

While talking to Ravat, he asked about how he earned his living and whether he and his family are beneficiaries of government schemes.
Comparing him with “Sudama”, the impoverished childhood friend whom Lord Krishna showered with gifts on meeting him after many years, the State Chief said: “Dasmat, now you are my friend.”
On Wednesday, Chouhan tweeted in Hindi that “he is very disturbed and pained ever since he saw the video of the incident and wanted to meet Dasmat to share his pain and to assure him that justice would be served.”
He further wrote that he will meet Ravat and his family at his residence in Bhopal and express contrition.
