"The New Delhi leaders' declaration will emerge as a voice of the Global South and the developing countries. No document in the world would have such a strong voice for the Global South and the developing countries," Kant emphasised.
India Delivered an Action-Oriented and Decisive Presidency
"When India took over the G-20 presidency in Bali, we were in the midst of a scenario of slowing growth and productivity worldwide...India felt that we should start our presidency with the theme of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' - the world is one family. PM Modi said India's presidency should be inclusive, decisive, ambitious and action-oriented. We have lived up to his vision of being inclusive, ambitious, action-oriented and very decisive during our presidency," Kant noted.
"The second key priority for us was to accelerate sustainable development goals because only 12 of the 169 SDGs are on track, and we are way behind schedule. Therefore, accelerating SDGs, improving learning outcomes, health outcomes, nutrition - all these were very critical for India's presidency," Kant observed.
African Union's G-20 Membership Moving Toward Consensus
"PM who is a great believer in Global South had written to all the leaders and there has been a very positive response and formally that will come before the Summit," Kant articulated.
"Our Sherpa has already said that honourable [Indian] Prime Minister [Narendra Modi] wrote a letter to all countries of the G-20 proposing that the African Union be included as a full member of the G-20. We expect that the summit proceedings starting tomorrow morning would take a suitable decision on it," he summed up.
