G-20 Summit in New Delhi
The G-20 Leaders' Summit in New Delhi, set to be held from September 9 to 10, will be the culmination of India's G-20 presidency. As the host of the G-20 meet-up, India has withstood Western pressure on the issue of the Ukraine conflict and has refused to join the sanctions war against Russia.

India will host the G-20 summit at the Bharat Mandapam, the newly constructed state-of-the-art International Exhibition and Convention Centre (IECC) in New Delhi on 9-10 September.
The leaders' communique, which will be released after deliberations between the heads of states of G-20 member states in New Delhi, will amplify the voice of Global South, India's G-20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said during a pre-summit press briefing on Friday.

"The New Delhi leaders' declaration will emerge as a voice of the Global South and the developing countries. No document in the world would have such a strong voice for the Global South and the developing countries," Kant emphasised.

Kant underlined that India's presidency of the G-20 would focus on the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had repeatedly spoken about inclusiveness, being decisive and action-oriented.

India Delivered an Action-Oriented and Decisive Presidency

"When India took over the G-20 presidency in Bali, we were in the midst of a scenario of slowing growth and productivity worldwide...India felt that we should start our presidency with the theme of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' - the world is one family. PM Modi said India's presidency should be inclusive, decisive, ambitious and action-oriented. We have lived up to his vision of being inclusive, ambitious, action-oriented and very decisive during our presidency," Kant noted.

He stressed that accelerating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was another key area for India during its G-20 presidency.
Besides that, addressing matters related to malnutrition, climate finance, and green development were some of the other topics that have been India's priorities during New Delhi's leadership of the G-20.

"The second key priority for us was to accelerate sustainable development goals because only 12 of the 169 SDGs are on track, and we are way behind schedule. Therefore, accelerating SDGs, improving learning outcomes, health outcomes, nutrition - all these were very critical for India's presidency," Kant observed.

African Union's G-20 Membership Moving Toward Consensus

On the subject of the African Union's (AU) possible inclusion in the G-20, Kant mentioned that PM Modi personally wrote letters to leaders of member states, supporting AU's induction in the forum, which according to him, has received a "positive response".
In this light, Kant was hopeful of the African Union's admission into the G-20 fold after further discussions on the topic in Delhi during the next two days.

"PM who is a great believer in Global South had written to all the leaders and there has been a very positive response and formally that will come before the Summit," Kant articulated.

On the other hand, Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra highlighted that member countries were already moving toward a consensus as far as the African Union's entry into G-20 was concerned.

"Our Sherpa has already said that honourable [Indian] Prime Minister [Narendra Modi] wrote a letter to all countries of the G-20 proposing that the African Union be included as a full member of the G-20. We expect that the summit proceedings starting tomorrow morning would take a suitable decision on it," he summed up.
