Russian President Vladimir Putin together with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are partaking in a videoconference on the occasion of the import of Russian nuclear fuel to the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh.
Rosatom is building the plant on the basis of an intergovernmental agreement signed in 2011. The Rooppur NPP is being built 160 km away from the capital, Dhaka on the eastern bank of the Padma River in accordance with a Russian project. It consists of two power units with a total capacity of 2,400 megawatts.
In 2017, Moscow provided a state loan of $11.38 billion to Bangladesh to finance the major stage of the building.
Construction of the plant building began in 2021, and in April this year, it became clear that Bangladesh is going to pay for the construction in yuan.
The successful launch of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will mean that Bangladesh has managed to become a member of the nuclear club of countries using the energy of the peaceful atom.
