The minister's call to talk about the problem comes amid decades-old allegations of enforced disappearances as a measure to silence inconvenient voices.

Sarfaraz Bugti, the Federal Interior Minister in Pakistan's caretaker government, has urged the country's political class to hold a discussion on trend of disappearances in the country.
The minister emphasized the importance of engaging in discussions to resolve the ongoing sit-in led by the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) outside the Parliament House. He urged the senators not to use the issue for campaigning.
The minister proposed the discussion while appealing senators to refrain from comparing Palestine with Balochistan, local media reported.
Speaking at the Senate, he informed everyone that initially, the BNP-M was granted the opportunity to hold a press conference and stage a symbolic protest at the Islamabad Press Club. However, they eventually relocated their demonstration to the Red Zone, which is the government zone housing the most influential buildings for executive, judicial, and legislative authorities, and resolutely persevered there.
The statement came days after senior politician and lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan filed a constitutional petition in the Supreme Court against the practice of disappearances.
While pointing to the disappearance of some Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) politicians, Ahsan also highlighted the matter of Balochistan's missing persons.
The politician also highlighted the recent disappearances of students from Balochistan.
