Vijay Diwas: PM Modi, Leaders Pay Tribute to Soldiers of 1971 India-Pakistan War

India, on Saturday, celebrates Vijay Diwas (Victory Day) as the entire nation stands united to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1971 India-Pakistan war.

In a tribute to the nation's valiant soldiers, India marked Vijay Diwas with a series of commemorative events across the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt tribute on Vijay Diwas to the brave heroes of the 1971 India-Pakistan war, acknowledging their selflessness and courage that ultimately led to India's victory.
"Today, on Vijay Diwas, we pay heartfelt tributes to all the brave heroes who dutifully served India in 1971, ensuring a decisive victory. Their valour and dedication remain a source of immense pride for the nation. Their sacrifices and unwavering spirit will forever be etched in the people’s hearts and our nation’s history. India salutes their courage and remembers their indomitable spirit," PM Modi posted on X (previously Twitter).
On December 16, 1971, India achieved a decisive victory over Pakistan after a 13-day conflict, resulting in the creation of Bangladesh from the former East Pakistan.
The Battle of 1971 resulted in the loss of 3,900 Indian soldiers' lives and left 9,851 others injured.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Manoj Pande, Indian Air Force Vice Chief Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, and Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar paid tribute by laying wreath at the National War Memorial in Delhi.
Several leaders and individuals posted several photos and videos as they paid tribute to soldiers on Vijay Diwas on social media.
Highlighting the significance of the day, President Droupadi Murmu attended a special 'At Home' reception at the Army House on the eve of Vijay Diwas.
