Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar predicted on Sunday that BRICS would grow and gain new members.
Speaking at the Rotary Institute 2023 event in Bengaluru, the EAM elaborated that BRICS is a sort of a diversity.
"I think well of it, I think it will grow. It'll gain in influence, it'll certainly gain in members because we have agreed to expand the BRICS by six more members the next time we meet, next year when we meet", Jaishankar said.
"The world cannot be run by seven countries which are from one part of one particular continent or two of them. So BRICS, in a way, is a message of diversity. It is a message of independence", he added.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday announced that the objective of the upcoming BRICS meeting, which Russia will host in 2024, will be to create a "fair" global order.
Following the 15th BRICS Summit in August 2023, six new members - Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates - were invited.
BRICS, which will now consist of six additional members, will account for 40% of the global population, have a combined GDP of $30.76 trillion, and make up 30% of the global economy.
According to South Africa's top diplomat for relations with the bloc, nearly 40 countries have expressed interest in joining the organisation. Formally, 14 nations expressed interest in joining in 2023.
