Iran, Taliban Hold Talks to Resolve Border Issues

Iranian and Afghan border guards have often clashed with each other. Last year, at least one Taliban fighter and two troops from the Shia-majority nation were killed in a cross-fire at the frontier adjoining Iran's Hirmand and Afghanistan's Nimroz provinces.

Ministry of National Defence of Taliban* on Wednesday said that its officials discussed border issues with a delegation from Iran.
"The border officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the country of Iran held a coordination meeting on border issues and strengthening bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries in Bandar Islam Qala of Herat province," the Ministry said in a post on X.
The Afghan MoD added that the meeting was chaired by Brigadier General Mohammad Rahim Khadim, who is the head of the 5th Frontier Brigade of the Afghan Army.

The Afghan side promised the Iranian officials their cooperation in strengthening relations with Tehran and other neighboring sovereign states.
"Also, the Iranian delegation expressed their satisfaction and satisfaction with the cooperation of the border forces of the Ministry of National Defense," the Islamic Emirate's statement concluded.
