Indian Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan has told the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM) that the United Nations (UN) Security Council reforms' process should be carried out in a “defined time frame”, according to an official by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday.
“The MoS noted that the global order has undergone dramatic changes since the creation of the present multilateral governance architecture in the 20th century, and emphasized the critical need for a paradigm shift in the structures and working methods of key global institutions to make them more responsive to contemporary challenges,” the Indian statement noted.
Further, Muraleedharan called for "enhanced financial flows" to ensure progress on on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as climate action, as agreed by the G20 countries at the New Delhi Summit last September.
At the session on 'G20’s role in dealing with ongoing international tensions', Muraleedharan called for an “inclusive and action-oriented response to contemporary global challenges”, which he highlighted were having a “disproportionate impact on the Global South”.
The Indian minister noted that a "valuable consensus" had been achieved during the G20 Summit in New Delhi, as he urged the G20 grouping to maintain their "focus on development related issues and accelerate progress on all the agreed New Delhi Leaders' Declaration (NDLD) decisions and outcomes".
India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Meeting
Muraleedharan also participated in the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Thursday, according to the MEA statement.
The meeting comprised two sessions – 'IBSA: Perspectives and Institutional Development' and another one on 'G20'.
"IBSA Ministers emphasized the importance of IBSA solidarity and convergence, and agreed on the need to boost functional cooperation in areas of shared interest," the Indian statement said.
