BJP Spokesperson Explains Where Liberal Propaganda Missing a Point About India
Western media is seemingly attempting to disgrace the image of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the April-May elections by claiming that his administration is failing female voters.
SputnikIndia's political parties are making preparations for the April-May Lok Sabha elections, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spreading awareness about the work done by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
For its part, the opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) bloc led by Congress claims that the work done by Modi government is not for the benefit of the people, rather for a few conglomerates.
Western media has also chimed in against the Modi government.
Last month, British weekly
The Economist claimed that “
India’s prospects for the brightest spot in the world’s economy will be dashed if Modi continues to take up the Hindutva plank."
'Cozy Cabal' of People Busy Spreading Propaganda
Talking about the reasons behind such reports coming out just months ahead of elections, the
BJP’s national spokeswoman Shazia Ilmi told
Sputnik India said that there is a "
cozy cabal of liberals" who are spreading such propaganda.
“It is because they believe in the cancel culture and are extremely intolerant towards any other point of view. They are stuck in a wrap and can’t see things for what they are. The ground under them is totally slipping, so they make up all these stories and pick out random stuff instead of looking at what’s actually happening,” Ilmi lamented.
She said that the huge transformation happening in India has been recognized by every country across the globe. India has grown from being the tenth-largest economy to the fifth-largest today and is reportedly on a path to become the third-largest in the coming years.
“So instead of looking at all of that, there are some individuals out there who cannot bear the fact that there is another system in place, which is more democratic, less elitist, and they come up with this and they keep thinking of new ways to attack the government without any substantiation whatsoever,” the BJP spokesperson stated.
Now, London-based Reuters has argued that the Modi-led government has “failed women” in addressing issues like safety, economic empowerment and employment despite a surge in women voters.
Responding to claims made in the report, BJP’s national spokeswoman said that the report is contradictory as it answers the issues raised.
“On one hand it says that women are disappointed over the issues of safety, economic empowerment and employment, at the same time it says that support of women for BJP has increased,” Ilmi explained.
She said that the party has garnered the support of women because they are getting something of value from this government, which is not only focused on the development of women but also
women-led development.
She especially highlighted sanitary measures aimed at improving female's lives.
“India had a dubious distinction of being the country with the highest population defecating in the open but now with the efforts of the government, there are 110 million new toilets. They are called 'Ijjat Ghar' (Houses of Dignity) for rural and urban sisters,” the BJP spokesperson highlighted.
She further said that apart from this, the government has made the lives of women easier in rural areas by providing Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) connections.
“Women got rid of unhealthy smoke of earthen stoves and are using LPG cylinders to cook food. The number of LPG connections has gone up from 140 million to 311 million. So, women are living a healthier life now,” the BJP spokeswoman said.
Highlighting the ordeal women used to face to carry water from wells or other water bodies, Ilmi likewise argued that previous governments failed to provide water to the households. The number of tap connections has reportedly increased from 30 million to 130 million during the Modi administration.
Surge in Female BJP Voters
The Reuters report quoted a survey carried out by pollsters Lokniti-CSDS that concluded that in the last election in 2019 there was a 7 percent surge of
female BJP voters from 29 percent of all women in 2014 to 36 percent in 2019.
It further said that a forecast by C-voter’s suggested that the trend will continue this year.
“If you see the figures, you will realize the fantastic work done by the government in terms of sheer governance and reaching out to the last person in the queue. This is the reason that women are not only voting in huge numbers for BJP but want to be a part of the whole ecosystem,” Ilmi said.
Fake Claims
Reuters likewise suggested that women are not happy with the government’s efforts toward safety, employment and economic empowerment.
Ilmi, however, argued that this is false and had political motives.
“The report mentions a source which is of the other party that is crumbling to bits and pieces and since they are not able to fight Modi in terms of sheer strength of his schemes, they are trying to malign his image,” she said, mocking the report.
The government has no discrimination in terms of caste, creed, or religion, she clarified, pointing to legislating criminalizing Triple Talaq (instant divorce) that benefitted millions of Muslim women.
