The Indian Navy shed another symbol of colonial legacy as the traditional Kurta-Pyjama debuted in its naval messes during the weekend.
Interestingly, India's Chief and Vice-Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar, and Vice Admiral Dinesh Tripathi were among the first ones to wear Kurta-Pyjama in the naval mess.
The Indian Navy shared pictures of the officers adorning the traditional attire besides releasing a statement about the development.
"Indian Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, Vice Chief Vice Admiral Dinesh Tripathi and other naval officers wore the recently permitted naval ethnic attire which made its debut at a Naval Officers' Mess in New Delhi," the statement from the South Asian nation's blue water force said.
Of late, the Indian Navy has put a lot of thrust into moving away from its colonial legacy - in September 2022, it changed its ensign.
It is worth noting that the new ensign features octagonal borders inspired by the great Maratha King, Chhatrapati Shivaji.
