“The two remaining missile squadrons of the S-400 air defence missile system are going to be supplied by August 2026 and will help in making our air defence system further stronger,” said the defence sources cited by India Today.
Where Are Air Defenses Deployed in India?
“The type of deployments that have been made suggest that we have at the moment almost 1.5 squadrons each on China and Pakistan front," the sources said.
Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force is set to take the lead in deploying the Long Range Surface to Air Missile (LRSAM) air defence system, enhancing India's readiness along the borders with both China and Pakistan.
This system will be complemented by existing air defence systems, including the operational Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) across all three services.
The initial three squadrons of the LRSAM have been activated in the northern and eastern sectors and have participated in aerial drills, according to defence sources.
With its diverse missile ranges, the system is capable of engaging enemy ballistic and cruise missiles, fighter aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles within a radius of up to 400 kilometres.
